Current Urbana Real Estate in Maryland

The Urbana region of Frederick County, Maryland, embodies a rustic atmosphere that is both peaceful and convenient. Located in the southeast section of the county, the community encompasses several small, unincorporated communities that are loosely bound together by their proximity and shared ideals. Real estate options in Urbana consist of single-family homes, condominiums, and townhouses.

The areas of Urbana, Green Valley, Flint Hill, Centerville, Hyattstown, and Ijamsville are home to roughly 4,000 residents. Currently, more than 85% of Urbana’s 62 square miles is comprised of farmland, woodlands, parks and other undeveloped public spaces. While future development will likely change this to some degree, local officials and residents are dedicated to maintaining the strong community atmosphere. The county has developed a plan that addresses future needs for additional housing, while preserving the unique and historic character of Urbana’s neighborhoods.

The city features five nationally registered historic places: Monocacy National Battlefield Park, Fat Oxen House, Stancioff House, the Amelung House and Glassworks site, and Bloomsbury Farm. Other notable sites include Sugarloaf Mountain, Monocacy River, Worthington Manor Golf Club, and Whiskey Creek Golf Club. Worthington has received national attention since its establishment, including a nomination for Golf Digest’s Best New Course in America in 1999.

Public education is provided by Frederick County Public Schools, a district with a reputation for excellent academic performance. Campuses within Urbana include Urbana Elementary, Green Valley Elementary, Kemptown Elementary, Oakdale Middle School, Windsor Knolls Middle School and Urbana High School.
